Raising Heart Excellion Mk 2: Nerf gun upgrades

Description

An exercise in how much realism you can make a prop with.

One of my favourite anime shows is Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Decided to crossplay as the main lead, Nanoha Takamachi in her final battle uniform, from the end of the 3rd season 'Strikers'

Nanoha's main weapon is her magical staff weapon Raising Heart, a sentient device capable of firing off a wave motion gun of magic energy.

When i decided to cosplay Nanoha, i wanted to make a Raising heat to go along with. but wanted it to be as close to functional to the 'real thing'

So, she talks. She lights up. Oh and she shoots 'magic' too.

Inside this 7 foot long staff, is electronics that enable her to talk, flashing lights that work while talking.. and a cut down Nerf gun provides the magic shooting ability. (she shoots magical damage, not physical damage)

Mark 2 saw an upgrade to the internal Nerf gun. replacing the stock plastic firing mechanics, was an 'Orange Mod Works' metal set. while the mod works kit boasts increased power and distance, this was not necessary here, so the kit's 6KG power spring was replaced with the stock gun's 2KG spring. this keeps the gun within safe levels, despite the kit's lack of an air restrictor.

the reason behind the upgrade to metal parts was in terms of durability. stock plastic parts have a habit of breaking. when encased in the prop. it's extremely difficult to extract the gun without destroying half the prop. hopefully the metal parts inside will never need maintenance on the Nerf gun itself.
